Briviba-NET - for an independent and erudite nation

We created Brīvība-NET.lv because we're concerned about Latvia's development and future. This website focuses on alternative solutions to questions of economics, politics and the state in Latvia. Our guiding motive is the promotion of a free market. We believe the state should assume a smaller role in economic processes, allowing the free market's self-regulating mechanisms to guide the country's development. Economic freedom, eradication of political corruption and keeping bureaucracy in check are vital concerns in every country. In Latvia, we have a democratic system of government. Power is in the hands of the people. We have the opportunity and responsibility to decide our future by participating in the political process and giving importance to economic issues. Unfortunately, many people distance themselves from this activity because of a simple lack of knowledge. We aim to remedy this situation by offering educational materials on the subject of economics, both original and translated works, in the Latvian language.

Our English website includes several original articles and in the archives section, a collection of texts and letters published in 2004 concerning rent control. In the near future, we will be publishing Ludvig von Mises' book, "Bureaucracy", in Latvian. Currently, we've organized an essay contest, "The Money Illusion in Latvian Politics", open to all Latvian students from the 10th grade and up as well as their teachers and professors.

We welcome all suggestions, participation, and help from the international community similarly interested in promoting free market economics locally and worldwide.
